About:
Born in New York City, NY
Lives and works in Chicago, IL
My paintings explore the random, hectic movements in the day-to-day—one action bumps into another—one thought suddenly leads you to a very different one—one shape leans into the next. We move fast and disconnectedly. Sometimes it adds up to a whole— and sometimes it remains in pieces.
I’m interested in the deceptively simple interplay between colors, shapes and lines on canvas. While my work has an easy air to it, for me the work is actually about every day struggles—the struggle between our daily needs and our greater desires, betweeen keeping track of our keys and trying to exercise, between the desire to create meaning versus accepting some meaninglessness. In the end, I’m also asking when do shapes and forms make “sense”? When does meaning take place”?
My work invites you to find the balance and sense in day-to-day life
How did you find Upper Canada Stretchers?
I received a grant to work at the fabulous Anderson Center for the Arts in Minnesota for a month and I wanted to find great stretchers that could easily be shipped to Minnesota and easily disassembled to ship back home. I looked online, found Upper Canada Stretchers to look like the best ones - and have been REALLY happy with them since.
